Pisces/Virgo Moon Tarot

the possible/impossible transition from dream to reality

Around 11 pm, sitting by the fireplace where thorns flare up to brighten the flames springing from the blackened chunk of wood, found molded by the side of the road, and burned for 3 to 5 separate nights so far. I think about the internal pressure I’ve felt from myself, the relentless drive I’m finding myself enjoying quite a lot. I think about the line drawn between Pisces and Virgo, between abandon and commitment, between dreams and reality, between seeing and acting.

The Queen of Wands

The Star

The Hermit

The King and Queen of Coins

The Three of Wands

A spontaneous reading tonight, two evenings after the full full moon, still in its sphere of influence — at least, according to me. I feel there are 4-ish days in either direction around full moons especially, in which you can feel their influence. Now, as the energy has peaked and is moving through, is the perfect time to process it, break it down, integrate it and make a move to get organized or clear in whatever ways Virgo told us to.

This message had a fun, light, speedy flow to it. The queen of wands and the star appeared in quick succession, signaling forceful ambition, and introspective inspiration, respectively. There they were before me, their combined force clearly reflecting my current moment, of both cultivating my wizardly power and getting my priorities in order.

The Queen is languid, fluid, and powerful. She exudes confidence and is associated with sunflowers and black cats. This marks the energy of these days — obvious coiled power, immense capability, skill and potential, the assuredness of fruitfulness following honest, hearty efforts, all balanced with the need to allow for slowness, delays, and things just taking the time they need. This annoying slowness can be at odds with the drive and immense sense of purpose fed by the queen’s flames.

The star here reads to me as a guiding light, a true North star, something still and coldly perfect on which you can rely, the larger dream, goal or intention on which you can keep your eyes fixed to stay the proper course, and whose inspiration and otherworldly promise can guide you through even the deepest doubts and frustrations.

The hermit appeared here, and often does, to remind us that swinging towards the solitude end of the social pendulum is ok, especially when it is done with wise purpose and the knowing that there is crucial internal work, or rather folding together of the internal and external, drawing lines of imaginative order around the things in the home and mind, so each can be where we need them when we look. As always it is crucial to keep an eye to balance and check-in with how we’re feeling to meet the need for people and conversation whenever it does come up again.

On the top of the shuffled deck, the king of coins sat, self-assured and calmly holding the big coin at his knee with a hand that is neither anxious and grasping nor carelessly slack. The queen was right behind him, so I’ll take their co-appearance as signaling the great balance and harmony present in the growing, abundant tidings they bring. The earth element royals are humble, clever, and willing to work hard despite knowing it is not necessary to work hard. They are the full expression of just thriving. Deep prudence and a confidence in not allowing themselves to be fooled or misled goes with them. They teach the great earthly knowledge that seeds in the right conditions are set on a course leading surely towards fruit and more seeds, yet at the same time, something can happen to the growing plants at any time. It is only with wise precautions against all unforeseen circumstances that we can feel fully assured of the harvest.

Three of wands is about plan and process. Many of us may have felt called to look over our life goals as well as goals for the year in this time — harnessing Virgo’s meticulous workhorse energy amplified by a big coming-out-of-winter moon like a satellite dish; we are advised to sharpen our wit and our eye by laying down precise steps for ourselves by which to create more space in our lives for the dreams and ideas to take shape in our reality. It’s important to remember that planning and organization do not have to look as we expect them to and they don’t have to follow a format set by someone else. This Pisces season moon reminds us of the strength, direction and meaning to be found in our dreams, in the pure essence of our originality. Figure out how to do what you want to do as yourself, in the way that you would do it. Make space for failure and misstep to not be disasters, just course-corrections, and trust that the methods, the rhythms innate in you are not just acceptable, they are the best ways of being available.

(I use an old-school, rather silly-looking Marseilles deck. It’s maybe the oldest design still in use, dating back to when the tarot was a card game played in French and Italian villages. The figures are goofy medieval puppets. It always reminds me not to take things too seriously, and I hope it can remind you, too, to not take any of this too seriously. I don’t know about the future, I just use the cards as a focusing mirror for my intuition, allowing me to externalize and “read” my perception of the situation, as it is developing.)
