olive harvest | short poetry film
documentary
In Autumn, the island’s country roads rumble under the weight of men on tractors, laden with burlaps sacks fat with olives, black, purple green. Olive mills are crowded with them, dropping off sacks, picking up great canisters of liquid green-gold olive oil. October, November, December – women in trees, kids below spreading canvases to catch the fruit. If you’re lucky, your trees will be ready to harvest before the weather turns cold enough to nip at your fingers and nose, you will picnic under the bounteous trees.
ANA | short poetry film
Premiere: Zebra Poetry Film Festival, Berlin
Words like incantations, words with a forceful momentum of their own, a power almost exclusive to poetry– that which captures the confusing, unlikely rhythms at which the events of our lives unfold, and the necessity of mercy, in the face of the all-destroying cutting edge of things. These are my associations with his work. The making of this film, the concepts playing through our minds as we planned and filmed it were heavily influenced not necessarily by Eliot himself, but by the poignant undeniablility of this is life, these are its mysteries, which poetry translates into feeling, shared understanding, some strange solace. Like poetry, there are many ways to interpret ANA, and none are wrong, exactly. But in the process of making it, the overwhelming feeling was of artful aliveness– what if you did the thing that scares you, that you crave, that you wonder what you would be like, if you could just do it?

Endangered Species | Short Film
Proof of Concept
“ONE WEEK before the deadline for a rather cool short film competition we wanted to enter and we had the Cinematographer – Nick tranakas – but no script or actors. the contest required a ‘proof of concept’ screenplay, meaning a 3-minute film that is a scene from a full length feature film, which can be used to get producers interested in making the full movie. Luckily I had ready a screenplay called ‘Precious Cargo,’ about a Palestinian refugee with PtSD and an Athenian society girl, neither of whom can afford to fall in love.”
